Boost Your Motivation and Be More Productive
There are so many apps out there for time management and productivity. Motion is one of them.
It’s a digital task planner that takes your tasks and puts them on your calendar for you based on your schedule. This app has really helped me get my life together. I’m a diehard paper planner kind of gal, and it’s really made me rethink how I’m productive and manage my time!
What Motivates Us
In humans, there are naturally expressed desires that govern drives. These include the need to provide basic needs like food, shelter, and safety. In some situations, people want to accomplish social status. The desire to be perceived by others as a productive person can also encourage someone to get things done. Sometimes that means doing tasks even though they are not technically necessary for survival or for the project at hand. Emotions and pride motivate people, which inspire them as productive individuals.
Motion Improved My Productivity
I used to waste hours in my day with trivial things here and there, never really finishing anything. I ran across this app, Motion, while browsing social media (a time-wasting activity) and took the bait. Click.
This took me to a well put together page and the promise of hours of my time back if I were to try it. Well, I did. And here are the results.
I was blown away. I got all my tasks done in one day. One. Day. Not multiple days of trying madly to catch up with tasks.
What usually looks like a million tasks written, I scrunched tasks into categories and gave them time estimates. Motion asks if you’d like to split the task up into several subsections and for how long. You can tell the app to schedule you for writing. If you, do it this week, then next time your schedule is free, it will automatically set you up to write. When the time comes to start, it will send a notification.
Now, not everyone can drop what they’re doing and start writing the moment a notification goes off. So, I force it to only be in the morning hours when I’m the most creative and ready to write, anyway.
I religiously stuck to its schedule over the past week. If I needed to reschedule something I could, and if I took a little longer or shorter on tasks, I could update them. It would recalculate for other tasks and give me a new schedule for the day based on those parameters.
Is It Okay To Be Unproductive?
We humans are not machines, so a constant pursuit of productivity will lead to burnout. Allowing time for sleep is enough to refresh the mind and physique. It also allows for creative, unstructured thinking, which fosters breakthroughs. In fact, many folks find self-care a powerful tool for regaining their calm after a long burst of productive energy.
The Verdict
I can be terrible at time management if I get started on one thing and forget to stop to do something else important. Having tools like Motion really helped me stay on track. This has been week one — I’m eager to see what the weeks in the future will be like. Will I have more time to read? More time to write?
Top time management apps are something you should consider if time is not your friend. Motion has changed my life for the better and I hope it does the same for you!
