I used to be scared of writing because I thought it was hard to get clients.

Author Sarra Cannon speaks to this virtue to help you believe you can love what you do and do what you love daily.

It’s no secret that creatives struggle to get work and get paid well. I know first hand because, for a long time, I was the creative without any clients struggling to find my place in the world.

But what about if you’re not just struggling with getting work but also struggling to write? What if your writer’s block is so bad that it keeps you from ever writing anything at all? …

The best thing about the internet is that it allows everyone to do what they love and make money. Creating a business on the internet has become easier than ever before, with online courses, templates, and tools available to help you get started.

But there are many roadblocks along the way that can stop your dreams of success in their tracks — so I put together this list of common mistakes people make when starting their own businesses from the learning process I had in my own online biz.

Common Business Mistakes When Starting Out

1) Not enough planning:

It’s important to take time upfront for research and strategizing before…

Is your life all that you want it to be? Are you happy with the way things are going in your world?

Photo by Lesly Juarez on Unsplash

If not, then I have some questions for you to ask yourself. I’m talking about a whole 10 of them! Hopefully, these questions will help get those wheels turning and show you how to strive towards a happier self.

  • Take a deep breath. What are you grateful for?
  • What are your passions, and what fulfills you?
  • Who brings joy into your life, even on the bad days? (This could be something or someone small like pup cuddles!)
  • How…

The healthcare industry is a place where people can go to be healed. However, when doctors and nurses discriminate against certain groups in the medical field, it feels like being shot with an arrow- you’re hurt but also feel violated on top of that because discrimination should not exist here at all!

Here I discuss how these types of people may face unfair treatment from health care providers due to their race/ethnicity or gender identity, which makes them more susceptible to depression as they cannot get proper access points for help. …

Why it’s Okay

If you haven’t had that mid-life crisis yet, and you haven’t thought about restarting your career later in life, a lot of us haven’t. I, at least, haven’t gone through the stereotypical buying a hot rod, running around town, divorcing for a younger man, and all that jazz. No, I decided to go to school for a master's in English and Creative Writing. To do something I was passionate about than doing what brought home the bacon.

The Pandemic

I had a successful run as a small business owner — at least until COVID-19 hit. I wasn’t against shutting things down to…

Now I’m one to talk about productivity all the time as it’s one of my favorite subjects to talk about. I use planners, google cal, Notion, you name it, and I probably use it to keep myself organized. I have a writing space solely for writing and a PC for everything else in another spot, so it’s not distracting while I’m trying to write. So many things can distract you from doing so, and chronic pain is one of those.

I’ve been dealing most of my life with chronic pain, I’d have to say probably half of it at least…

If you’re like me, you need that morning cup of coffee (or tea) to get going or for your phone to stay charged all-day

Photo by Devin Avery on Unsplash

Morning Joe is one of the most important things in many people’s lives, and drinking it hot (unless you’re a cold brew person) is an absolute must. When it gets cold, that’s a huge bummer, so this invention is super convenient, fits at your desk, and keeps everyone happy. Several of these types of warmers out there for your coffee mug and some that come with their own mugs. I’ve just listed the one I have at home, but with a little research, there are plenty out there I’ve found ranging anywhere from $21 with the Mr. …

Chronic pain is silent and not always apparent. Think before you judge.

Photo by engin akyurt on Unsplash

Chronic pain is a silent disability, often crippling those that have it. Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint just what causes it and can take years to diagnose it. Mine took about 10 years to diagnose before getting an answer, and even then, the pain continues to plague me with various results from pain management.

I’ve had pain pills, acupuncture, massage therapy, electric stim therapy, shots in the back, hips, and knees — you name it, and I’ve probably had it done. To this day, there are still issues…

Managing your day can be a chore when you overwhelm yourself with tasks

Photo by krisna iv on Unsplash

Schedules and tasks are often cruel mistresses, impeding progress if you cannot follow its guidelines on what you set for yourself. Personally, I fail at these spectacularly at least a few times a week despite feeling as if I’m a productivity guru at this point. No one is perfect. I’m not, the person next to you isn’t, so why expect yourself to be? The advice I give below is taken from the trash, painted over, and given to you as a form of ‘learn from my mistakes’ type deal.

We often sit down with task lists at the beginning of…

I don’t know about you, but as a writer, I get feedback all the time on my work as I should. Without it, I wouldn’t grow as a writer. Editors are there to make our jobs easier, not harder. I’ve been an editor for a small publication, and I can tell you the last thing I wanted when talking to writers was to be an a-hole to them.

In fact, I made sure that my feedback was encouraging while being honest. …
